Spring 2011

VITA Program

Lilly Cary and Diane Browning Promoting Savings Bonds

On March 30, 2011 our VITA (Volunteer Income tax Assistance) Volunteers ended their two-and-a-half month long program helping
low-income individuals and families file their taxes for free. We were able to help over 30 people save the hundreds of dollars they would have spent through a paid provider. This was Wellspring's first year providing this assistance, and will most likely turn this into an annual program.

Below are some statistics to give you a better idea of the people we helped and what we were able to accomplish:

Average Age : 59
Total Earned Income : $363,900
Total Social Security : $244,813
Total Credits Received : $16,806
Total Federal Refunds : $28,415
Total WV Refunds : $5,737

Home Improvement Projects/Bethlehem Farm Work Teams

Our biggest projects during the Spring and Summer revolve around home improvement. We work with work teams, typically high school and college students from all over the country, from Bethlehem Farms on a semi-regular basis from March to October. All of our funding during this period goes to helping buy supplies and equipment to make these projects possible.
